History of Video Poker
Video poker is based on the original five-card draw poker. It has earned a place as a hot favorite casino game. Video poker is played on a computerized console similar to a slot machine.
The birth of video poker coincides with the period when personal computers were first developed in early 70s. It gained commercial impetus when it became economical to fuse a monitor screen with a central processing unit. The first Video Poker was built by Dale Electronics in 1970. It was named ‘Pokermatic’. But Pokermatic wasn’t a success in casinos as people couldn’t see the reels spinning in the machine. SIRCOMA (Si Redd's Coin Machines) started large scale manufacture of ‘Draw Poker’ in 1979. Video Draw Poker clicked at once in the casinos as it overcame the drawback of the unseen reels. SIRCOMA later developed into a larger firm – International Game Technology. Video Poker became increasingly popular in the 80s. People found the Poker Machine safer and more reliable, compared to playing Poker on table with opponents. In 1994, Micogaming developed the first online casino software.
