5 Card Stud Poker how to play guide
Let us understand the format of 5 Card Stud Poker and how it is played on an UK online poker site. We consider the format for a typical 5 Card Stud Casino Poker.
When a poker player enters any of the UK online poker rooms to play the game of 5 Card Stud Poker, he or she needs to follow its format.
First round : Opening of the Betting " - The "3rd Street "
Betting begins with the poker player who holds the lowest value Door Card. The first bet is termed the Bring in or Opening Bet. If two players hold same valued Card then the Bring in is determined by suit, in order club-diamonds-hearts-spades. Players may call, raise or fold at this point.
Second round : The "4th Street "
Remaining players get a fresh card - face up (Up card). Player with the two strongest Up cards starts betting. Betting continues as normal.
Third round : The "5th Street "
Remaining players get another Up card. The one with the strongest Up card combo begins the betting.
Fourth round : The "6th Street "
Remaining players get another Up card. The one with the strongest Up card combo begins the betting.
Fifth round : The "River"
Remaining players get the final card - face down. Each player now holds 4 Up cards & 3 Down cards. Betting begins with the one who holds the strongest Up cards.
Showdown happens after all the betting is over. Players decide to reveal or fold their respective Down cards. The one who has made the last bet has to reveal the hand first. If no betting has taken place on the penultimate round then the one having the maximum value of Up cards has to reveal first.
Deciding the winner
- Whoever happens to have the best hand, is declared the winner of the pot. The one holding the best 5-card hand is declared winner. In case 2 or more players hold exactly similar winning hands, the split-pot rule is usually applied.
- The poker players can opt to fold without showing their respective hands. The winner at the end of this showdown round grabs the pot. If the rest of the field chooses to fold except for one player, the latter wins by default even without a showdown happening.
