Brian Pomeroy, the new Chair of the UK Gambling Commission, is keen on taking the Commission ahead in its regulatory role.
UK Gambling Commission is the Government’s gambling watchdog. Brian Pomeroy has just been appointed as Chair of the Commission. He will officially take up his new post on January 1, 2008. Peter Teague has been appointed as a Commissioner from September 1, 2007. He along with Pomeroy has a credible regulatory experience.
The new Chair of the UK Gambling Commission is committed to the goal of fair gambling. He is keen on taking the Commission ahead in its regulatory role, and wants to enforce several of the new provisions of the Gambling Act. This will include taking action against operators who fail to comply with the Act and ensuring that gambling remains fair.
The UK Gambling Commission is known to be a tough regulator with stringent powers. The new Chair of the Gambling Commission is expected to build on the legacy of his predecessor Peter Dean. The latter guided the Commission through implementation of the Gambling Act, turning it into an effective regulator.
Brian Pomeroy, after the latest appointment, would step down as a Commissioner of the National Lottery Commission. The new Chair of the Gambling Commission expressed his pleasure over the appointment.
He said, “I am pleased to have been appointed as Chair at such an important time for the Gambling Commission.” He remarked that the Gambling Act needs the industry to take up a whole new approach to the way it functions, putting social responsibility at the core of its business.
His priority will be to ensure that the gambling industry meets the new standards set by the Act. In doing so, the Gambling Commission is committed to employ its new powers and sanctions for ensuring that gambling remains fair and free with proper safeguards.
